Philosophy
With the philosophy of cooperation and challenge, participants come away from these trips and courses with a feeling of incredible accomplishment and camaraderie. Through peer support and personal challenge, they build confidence, self-reliance and self-awareness as they relate to the environment and learn to canoe safely in Ontario. Laughter, hard work, good food, and great stories make Full Moon On The River programs memorable.

History and Company Founding
Full Moon On The River was founded by Sandra Mayberry and her sister Susan Purchase. Sandra has been involved in canoe tripping, guiding and instructing for over 20 years. She has worked as a guide at YMCA Camp Pine Crest and later as an instructor for high school teachers for certification in Canoe Tripping Level 3 by ORCKA. While raising her children and juggling her career as a teacher, Sandra has never missed a summer without  canoe tripping with her  family.
In 1998, friends and colleagues were intrigued by Sandra’s wilderness stories and asked if they could come along, despite never having gone on a canoe trip before. For many, the experience was life changing. They felt a connection to the land and a sense of empowerment that had never entered their lives this way before. Sandra felt these were experiences that needed to be shared. From then on, Sandra led a growing number of friends and newcomers on these trips every spring and fall throughout the lakes and rivers of Ontario. These experiences laid the groundwork for the founding of Full Moon On The River.

Background to the Name
Nine women paddled the Gibson River to Georgian Bay one warm, sunny autumn weekend. Later in the evening as dusk turned to dark, the moon rose above the tree line. It was a full moon and its reflection on the river lit up the night. This was a memory to hold on to forever. It would be a small moment in the span of a lifetime yet a moment larger than life itself. It was this memory that provided the background for Sandra and her sister, when they first named the company- Full Moon On The River.

Today, Sandra lives in Northern Ontario on the shores of the Spanish River Provincial Park with her partner, Wally Van Dyke. Together they offer a range of ORCKA courses in kayaking, canoeing, and voyageur (36ft canoe) canoeing on site at theri beautiful waterfront retreat.
