Safe Canoeing and Basic skill level courses are designed to introduce the novice or relatively inexperienced canoeist to paddling. The emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of canoeing along with a strong grounding in water safety and safe canoeing practices (ORCKA Program Manual, 2008).
These courses are instructed by Sandra Mayberry. Full Moon offers private and semi-private lessons and dates are flexible. Paddling is on Agnew Lake in Northern Ontario (an hour west of Sudbury). There are options for overnight stays such as camping on site or local lodging in the town of Espanola. Canoe Tripping Courses
Canoe Tripping Level 1 provides an introduction to canoe tripping for those with little or no tripping experience. CT1 prepares candidates to be safe, skilled and knowledgeable participants on a short duration canoe trip lead by more experienced canoe trippers. The participant should have completed Basic Level 1 Tandem or have equivalent skills (with permission of course director). The course consists of in-class sessions and an overnight canoe trip.
Canoe Tripping Level 2 provides the experienced canoe tripper with the opportunity to improve his/her canoe tripping skills under more challenging conditions. Canoe Tripping Level 1 skills are reviewed and expanded upon and new skills and theory are introduced to enhance the wilderness canoe tripping experiences of the candidate. The course involves a canoe trip, stressing organization, safety, and introduces the fundamental concepts of leadership and risk and crisis management. Participants must have completed Canoe Tripping Level 1, and Basic Canoeing Level 3, equivalent certification or comparable skills and experience (with permission of the Course Director). Previous wilderness canoe tripping experience is also required. For all courses, participants are expected to have a fitted PFD, personal back pack, paddle and if a canoe trip is part of the course, sleeping bag and mat. Fees include guide/instructor, food, tents, canoes and camp/cooking equipment.

ORCKA Flat Water Kayaking Level 1 A and B

Upon completion of the Flatwater Kayaking Level, the successful course participant should have the knowledge, skills and confidence to plan and execute short (up to half-day) kayak tours with other similarly skilled individuals in sheltered waters.
